1863 Cr.6 25c The State of ALABAMA Note - CIVIL WAR Era PMG Ch.CU 63
1863 Cr.6 25c The State of Alabama note from Montgomery, AL.
This note from the American Civil War has a Vignette of a Map of Alabama beneath a large tree inside an ornate frame to the upper left. At the center, a wagon full of cotton bales is being pulled by mules. On the bottom right is a portrait of Juliet Opie Hopkins. Fractional paper money like this was issued during the Civil War as copper, silver, and gold increased in value and people began to hoard coins. These fractional denominations were required to continue business as usual.
This note is PMG Graded Choice Uncirculated 63 with "Stains" noted that is just toning, commonly seen on these notes.
