1862 10c Daniel P. Gunnels Postmaster's Scrip from Oxford, Alabama.
Gunnels was involved in a mercantile business in Oxford from 1854 until 1872. From 1862-1865 he was associated with the Oxford Iron Co. His name appears as Postmaster of Oxford in an 1859 listing of Postmasters, and again in 1865. It seems likely that he served in the same role for the Confederacy during the war.
